Hierapolis Documentary parts 1 to 4

         Hierapolis — Paul Woodward
Dublin musician, singer-songwriter, electronic artist and filmmaker Paul Woodward created Hierapolis, an electronic concept Album  released in 2018. The release contains many emotive electronic music tracks such as Cradle, the arpeggiated melodic Calculus, and the eloctro pop Synergy also the powerful darker, beat heavy Memory Eraser and Terrorist, with its pulse driven Bass line . The Album also hosts the exprimental harmonic vocal arrangements of Gone and Headtrip with it narrated spoken word musings of the late great philisopher and 1960s counter culture guru Alan Watts , to name but a few tracks  . Hierapolis is an electronic double concept album inspired by Woodwards trip to the ancient city of Hierapolis in Turkey in 2018. The project is a moderen distopian tour de force with its accompanying book and four-part music  documentary film. Its hard to discribe the music contained within this album it has the bombastic prog rock  ambition of lets say YES or Genesis and the influence is evident in Ro Hacketts lucid cover artwork indeed he has done many of Woodward albums before this, but the album has many other touchstones from Kraftwerk to Philip Glass and even Jean Michel Jarre and Mike Oldfield or Todd Rundgren . The movie is publicly available on YouTube and  you can view the four parts  here by clicking on the links below.  The ambitious  Hierapolis project  explores  Woodward’s connection with the ancient thermal city in Turkey while also looking at some other locations in Dublin, Ireland.  The album interweaves a fictitious tale that slowly unfolds over the duration of the listening experience . The overall effect is the perfect antedote to todays modern short attention spans when it comes to music listening habits, and indeed thats the whole subversive point behind Woodwards observations here .Yet there is still enough dopamine hits coming from the groves of this record to hold a younger audience captive, and alast we are left with this entertaining diacotomy .

The documentary film is  Introduced and  narrated by Journilist and Film Maker Ernest Beggs .
